Red-Hot Cordero Scorches Chiefs
Wednesday, July 14th, 2066
5 hits in a game has always been a magic number in baseball. Only a handful of players will do that. Get 5 hits in a game, and you get your moment of glory, your fifteen minutes of fame -- you get your name in the record book. In the Engineers 22-5 win over Garland, Roberto Cordero was red-hot today, scorching them for hit after hit at Field of the Engineers. "To hit the ball consistently well, you have to relax. I was relaxed for the first four hits, but I must admit, I got a little tight when I realized I had a chance for a 5-hit game. On the last at-bat, I was ready to swing at anything close." On his big day Cordero delivered 5 hits in 7 at-bats. Roberto Cordero singled in the 1st, hit an RBI single in the 2nd, grounded out in the 3rd, hit a two-run double in the 4th, singled in the 6th, singled in the 7th and flied out in the 8th.
This season Cordero has banged out 103 hits in 336 at-bats for a .307 average with 11 home runs. He is getting on base at a .385 pace and his totals also include 54 RBIs and 53 runs scored.
